Scent : Unscented

Obagi is my go-to daily facial sunscreen. It smells like literally nothing. It protects against UVA & UVB rays. It is light, non-greasy, and the tint offers light coverage, so you can skip the BB or CC cream and just use this! On hot summer days, you can skip your makeup altogether and use this to give you coverage. It also has two tint variations, so you can have a little more control over the tone of your skin.

Obagi is kind of controversial in the cruelty-free front because, in addition to their regular line of skincare products, they also have a line of prescription products. All of their non-prescription products are cruelty-free, which is a choice by the company. All of their prescription products are required by the FDA to be tested on animals, which is not the choice of Obagi, but unavoidable until the FDA adapts better policies. Obviously, I try not support the side of the company that tests on animals, but I do support Obagi's regular products because I don't believe that it is the intention of the company to harm animals. Rather, I believe that they are forced by the FDA. If they wanted to, they could easily say "The FDA is doing animal testing on some of our products and it would be muh cheaper to just do that across the board", but they don't, and I do think that's commendable.

Water resistant for 40 minutes

This sunscreen is the reason that I decided to write this blog. I was out for a trip to the lake with my husband and fur babies. We were running behind, so I grabbed this sunscreen, took it to the car, and as my husband was driving, smeared it all over my face, then my body. After I saw the opaqueness of the product, I flipped down the visor mirror to my horror. My entire face was ghost, white. The sunscreen would not rub in! It left this white film on my skin all day! Thankfully, it was just the two of us, but I would have been mortified to wear this in front of anyone else!

Cost: $11.79/4oz

Water Resistant: 80 minutes

Use: Body & Face

Active Ingredient: Octinoxate, Octisalate, Zinc Oxide

Scent: Smells like honey & oatmeal

I immediately liked this sunscreen because of the smell. Instead of having that zinc meets coconut aroma, it was a soft scent like oatmeal and honey. It goes on white, but quickly absorbs into skin and doesn't leave any residue. It has more of a matte finish than most sunscreens, so you can easily wear it under makeup.

This sunscreen didn't irritate my skin at all and I was kind of shocked. Suncreen pretty much always inflicts a 10-30 second burning sensation on my face, leaving me red and irritated, which means that I pretty much have to wear makeup over it. I could actually go makeup free with Kiss My Face!

Cost: $7.29/4oz

Water Resistant: 80 minutes

Use: Body & Face

Active Ingredient: Avobenzone, Homosalate, Octocrylene, Octyl Salicylate, (advertises no oxybenzone or octinoxate)

Scent:Warm Sugar and Citrus; Definetely smells like sunscreen but no coconut or banana

I am a huge fan of this sunscreen! It does have your stereotypical sunscreen smell to it, but it doesn't irritate my skin at all. It leaves a sheen once it's rubbed it, which can sort of act like a primer, but it will also make you look very shiny if you don't mattify with a powder.

The aloe in this sunscreen is super moisture rich. I've even used it instead of my morning moisturizer a few times! If you live in a humid place, moisturizer + sunscreen + primer or BB cream = melting face. With this sunscreen, you can just wear it as your moisturizer, sunscreen, and primer!

Cost: $35.20/3oz

Water resistant: 80 minutes

Active Ingredient: Zinc Oxide

I am on the essential oil bandwagon. If you haven't purchased any, you should get a few for your home and to travel with. Some people are kind of insane over oils and spend thousands of dollars on them, and stop using traditional medicine for their kids, and make their own ant spray, and wear jewelry doused with them... That's fine, but that's not me. That being said, I had never tried or even heard of a sunscreen from an essential oil company and I was intrigued!

When my bottle arrived (with a grapefruit lip salve that is AMAZING!!!) and I read that it was only SPF 10, I was a little disappointed. SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor, or how much ultraviolet radiation it takes to burn your skin when you have no sunscreen on compared to when you're slathered in sunscreen. Dermatologists recommend at least SPF 15 (blocks 93% of UVB rays), preferably SPF 30 (blocks 97% of UVB rays). No sunscreen can block all UVB rays, even SPF 100 only blocks 99% of UVB rays, but SPF 10 is just too low, especially when you consider that most Young Living customers are over 30 years old, which means that their skin has stopped producing collagen. We, ladies and gentleman 30 and over, need protection from the sun more than anyone!

This sunscreen did not irritate my skin and mine is very sensitive. It goes on a very opaque white, but it does eventually rub in to be clear.

I also anticipated that a sunscreen from an essential oil company would smell really good. Maybe you are supposed to add your own essential oils to make it smell how you want? That would be cool. It just smells like sunscreen.

Overall, I am still a fan of Young Living, but I hope that next year, they consider making the SPF higher.

Cost: $44.00/1oz

Water Resistant: ? I can't find anything other than the recommendation to use a water resistant suncressn with it, so I'm assuming that it isn't water resistant.

Active Ingredient: Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide

Scent: None

My friend, Emily gave me a sample to try and I loved this stuff!Think of it as a tinted primer with sunscreen. It makes pores look smaller, has very light coverage, is a great base for makeup, and has SPF 30! It isn't greasy at all. The down side is that I don't think it's water resistant and obviously, it's only for your face.

Always remember to apply your sunscreen at least 15 minutes before sun exposure! Also, don't forget to coat your ears! Your ears and nose stick out, so you need to pay extra attention to covering those with sun block. No matter which cruelty-free sunscreen you use, just use one!!! You can't reverse the damage once it's done. Also, please do not"tan". Laying out slathered in oil, using tanning beds, these things are going to make you look like a handbag before you're fifty! There are so many incredible fake tanners (I recommend using a mousse) that you can have a gorgeous tan and still keep your young, undamaged skin! Please, protect your skin. Wear sunscreen every day and in twenty years, you will look younger than all of your friends! Get it, girl!

Whitney! Oh sweet. Isn’t that grapefruit lip balm so good!

I’m so glad you put this blog up today. Young Living just announced spf 50! I’m super happy about this for myself and my boys. The 10 worked really well for us last year, we applied several times throughout our active days.. but having the protection of spf 50 is making this mama’s day!
