2019 Swim

Writer: WhitneyWhitney

Is it just me or has the swim industry taken a dive for the worst? It's like they hit a plateau over the past three years and decided suddenly to just plummet into the deep end with zero creativity, poor styling, boring colors, and blatantly bad designs this season! I recommend sticking with the tried and true, time-tested pieces that are still available. Avoid the unflattering 80's designs that looked bad then on cocaine-addicted models and look even worse today. Maybe I'm being harsh, but I have searched the internet over and found almost nothing that would flatter my shape, much less anything that would inspire any woman to feel like queen of the beach this season, and it pisses me off. Every woman deserves to feel beautiful, and you shouldn't purchase anything that makes you feel any other way/

Country

Gingham and check prints are a southern staple and they are fun and flattering at every age!

-My first pick with the solid black underwire bikini and check bottom is from GabiFresh on Swimsuits for All. This is sweet Southerner meets Bond girl. I love how slimming the belt is, how fun the bottom is, and most importantly, how supportive the top is!

-Pick number two is from Xhileration for Target in red gingham. It's not as supportive of the bust, but it's crazy cute and very inexpensive. I love the classic red checks and the flirty ties.

-The third pick is a navy gingham one-piece from Torrid! The movement of the chck print is very flattering, and the cross straps (in the back) mean that it can hold the girls up after a long day at the beach.

Vintage

Instead of going with bad 80's designs that flatter absolutely no one, stick with vintage patterns that shape and flatter the female figure, because that's the way it should be! My picks are from a time when curves were celebrated!

-This Lemon Dot Midkini from Torrid is two separate pieces that fit together for a comfortable, cute, flattering peplum top with lightly padded cups. This silhouette is romantic and it will never make you feel like you need to suck in at the beach.

-I really like this vintage-inspired design from GabiFresh on Swimsuits For All. It comes in blu and black as well, but the most important part is that it has a smart bust design, with plenty of support and slimming striping on the sides as well as the bottom.

-This adorable polka-dot bikini is from ModCloth and I love the support that the top offers along with the adorable polka-dot pattern.

Structured

Structured pieces can be great for long days on the beach. No one wants to suck in all day. These suits are sure to make you look shapely and seductive, even after being tossed around in rough waves for a few hours!

- This high-waisted two piece from CupShe just screams Barbie! I love the cups, the flattering bust lines, and of course, who doesn't love a high-waist? Sucking in at the beach is for the birds. Plus, this set is less than $30!

- I'm obsessed with this piped one piece from Torrid. It is so sexy, but also has support and shape! These piped lines are beyond flattering and the structure will add curves where there are none and hide curves you may not want everyone to see. Great design!

-My third choice is from Old Navy and it feels very nautical, but pay attention to the vertical striping on both sides.
